Reducing our use of carbon
The energy industries (power stations) contributed nearly 40% of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions. By using less electricity we can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions from this source.
We may not be able to control how much energy is used in construction and manufacturing but by buying fewer new products and reusing items as much as possible we can reduce our share in this source of carbon dioxide.
However, we can control how much energy we use in homes and which transport options we choose.
