Sounds are made when objects vibrate

Anything can make a sound if you hit it.This is because hitting things makes them shake or vibrate and that makes the air near the hit object move. Our ears pick up on the movement in the air. Sounds are made when objects shake or vibrate.

The bigger the shake, the bigger the vibrations and the louder the sound that's made. So if you hit something really hard, it vibrates more, which makes the air vibrate more and that makes a bigger sound.

Try clapping loudly and softly to feel the different vibrations.
