What to wear

What should I wear to be safer on a bicycle?

Cyclists must always be aware of traffic around them. NEVER cycle listening to music and ALWAYS WEAR A FITTED HELMET. Check your helmet has a British Kitemark or has the EC safety standard number EN1078 – this shows that the helmet is well made and will help protect your head. It is important that you are clearly visible to traffic at all times but particularly at night, or when it is dark and wet.

Wearing high-visibility clothing can really help. You can also get fluorescent and reflective bands to wear round your arms and legs. At night, it is illegal to cycle without a white headlamp at the front of your bike, and a red light and red reflector at the back of your bike.
