Job description
3M is looking for outstanding science students to join our technical community. As a diversified technology company built on innovation, we have several technical sites across the UK responsible for the development of products. These sites include several business specific laboratories such as pharmaceuticals, abrasives, tapes to name a few as well as corporate laboratories, a resource available to the UK organisation to support development, regulatory compliance and troubleshooting. Our Scientists are not just technical experts in the area they work in but are experienced in an array of business processes, manufacturing awareness, product commercialisation and Six Sigma.
Required Profile
- The right to live and work in the EU
- To be on target to achieve a minimum 2:1 degree in a respected subject, backed up by strong A level results (A/B Grades including at least one STEM subject ) or equivalent qualifications.
- A UCAS tariff of at least 300 points
- Some working experience, preferably in a technical environment (maybe as part of an industrial placement) is preferred but not essential.
- Self motivated individuals who are clear about what they are looking for and are able to take ownership of tasks and their career.
- Team oriented. Encourages others and works effectively in a team to achieve the required goal. Able to take on whatever role is required by the situation.
- Results focused. Uses own initiative, recognising, creating and seizing opportunities to implement ideas to achieve results.
- Project planning and control experience as demonstrated through extra curricular and work experience examples.
- UK Driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Training and Development
Science placement students go through the department induction process on their first day as well as the individual site induction process. The department induction process aims to provide the new starter with visibility over all aspects relating to the job.
Training in the following (if applicable): instrumentation, systems, processes and procedures can start from day one with involvement in real day to day activities and projects. We think this is the best way to learn the trade and allow you to show us your talent. We recruit students because they bring new ideas into the team and we foster an environment which listens to what they have to say.
You will join our training programme which is delivered throughout the 12 months, encompassing skills fundamental to succeed in the 3M world. Workshops will include sessions on presentation, negotiation and time management skills, as well as ensuring placement students have a full understanding of how 3M functions as a business. We want our students and graduates to be future company leaders and the training is focused towards giving you what you need to achieve this.
