• Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re suffering from incontinence associated dermatitis, there’s probably a lot to consider. From pads and creams to trying to stay active and mobile IAD can be as confusing as it is painful. So we’ve made protecting your skin – and enjoying life again – as simple as possible. With that in mind, you’ll find some of the answers to our most frequently asked questions below.

  • How does 3M™ Cavilon™ Barrier Cream work?

If you’re suffering from IAD, you’ll know that it’s an unpleasant condition. It happens when urine and faeces interfere with your skin, causing painful rashes and sores.

Cavilon Barrier Cream forms an invisible, breathable protective barrier over your skin. It stops urine and faeces coming into contact with your skin, letting it heal naturally. It also moisturises your skin, helping to soothe the pain while it protects.

  • Will Cavilon Barrier Cream stop my skin from getting worse?

Yes. Cavilon Barrier Cream has been clinically proven to protect sore skin from urine and faeces. The protective barrier that Cavilon Barrier Cream forms is completely breathable, hypoallergenic and pH-balanced, too, so it’ll help your skin breathe and heal naturally.

  • How do I apply Cavilon Barrier Cream to my skin?

Apply in pea sized amounts twice a day to any affected areas, making sure that your skin’s clean and dry beforehand. Cavilon Barrier Cream’s durable formula means it won’t wash or rub off over the course of your day. So just make it part of your routine for a few minutes each morning and evening, maybe after your shower or before going to bed.

  • Should I use Cavilon Barrier Cream even if my skin’s not sore?

Yes. Cavilon Barrier Cream is designed to stop your skin becoming damaged by protecting it from contact with urine and faeces. So if you’re suffering from incontinence, but your skin’s not already sore, Cavilon Barrier Cream is a great way to keep it healthy. Incontinence associated dermatitis is an unpleasant condition, as anyone who has it will tell you, so it’s never too early to start protecting your skin and keep enjoying your day.

  • What happens if I apply too much?

You only need to apply pea sized amounts at a time of Cavilon Barrier Cream onto each affected area. A little really does go a long way but don’t worry if you use too much, it’ll just make your skin feel a bit greasy. Cavilon Barrier Cream is pH balanced and completely hypoallergenic, so all you need to do is just wipe the excess off, gently.

If you apply the cream correctly all of the cream will have been absorbed into the skin and the protective barrier of the cream may be seen as a slight sheen.
