    3M™ Zeta Plus™ Depth Filters are made of wet laid media containing cellulose fibres, filter aid and binding resins that impart a charge to the filtration matrix. 3M depth filters are available in a wide range of filter matrices to fit with your process needs.

Media series

  • SP media has the widest nominal pore size range relative to other 3M Zeta Plus media offerings, including a greater number of grades. SP media also has grades with larger nominal pore sizes than LA or ZB media.

  • LA media is the cleanest 3M Zeta Plus media family offered. 3M Zeta Plus LA series low aluminum (LA) filter media are designed to provide low levels of extractables, especially aluminum.

  • ZB media offers a higher charge level than SP or LA media. It offers single layer and dual layer grades with a smaller nominal pore size than either the SP or the LA media family.

  • Known throughout the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry for their speed, low cell shear and cleanliness, 3M depth filters are also easy to handle, helping to simplify the depth filter step.

Featured 3M™ Zeta Plus™ Products

  • The 3M Zeta Plus Encapsulated System is a single-use depth filtration system designed for cell culture fluid clarification or downstream impurity removal. The Zeta Plus Encapsulated System is designed for process scales of less than 1 litre to 15,000 litres.

  • In addition to the 3M Zeta Plus Encapsulated systems, cartridge options are available in 8 inch, 12 inch and 16 inch sizes, with multiple lenticle and construction configurations, for use in stainless steel housings.

    The next generation in harvest and clarification technology is designed as an efficient option to increase monoclonal antibody (mAb) yields while streamlining the upstream process by replacing the centrifuge and/or depth filtration process steps.

    3M™ Harvest RC is a single stage solution that utilises fibrous anion exchange (AEX) chromatography to efficiently separate the cells, cell debris, and DNA from the harvest fluid containing the target product. Precision quaternary ammonium (Q) functionalized polypropylene fibre, combined with a 0.2 µm PES membrane, provides scalable and predictable clarification from discovery to commercial manufacturing scale.

  • Image of the 3M™ Emphaze™ AEX Hybrid Purifier

      For chromatography column efficiency and economy in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, 3M also provides a hybrid design of chromatographic and membrane separation using nonwoven media and membrane combined in one device that is able to handle some turbidity.

      The 3M™ Emphaze™ AEX Hybrid Purifier is a combination of two types of media (Q-functional nonwoven and nonfunctional membrane) that work together to provide unsurpassed process fluid clarity and particle size control for the process fluid when using a single unit operation. The defined pore size of the qualifying membrane provides removal of insoluble particles well below 0.1 µm in size through Q functionalized nonwoven, resulting in superior turbidity reduction. At the same time, the high chromatographic capacity of the Q-functional nonwoven provides substantial reduction of negatively charged, soluble impurities including DNA and HCP.
