WeAreTheCity is an online forum that provides free careers advice and the prestigious Rising Star awards were set up to showcase the pipeline of female talent in the UK and create role models across 20 different industries and professions.

More than 850 entries were assessed by a panel of 21 independent judges and more than 28,000 public votes were received for the 200 shortlisted nominees. This placed Sarah in the top five in the Technology category.

Vanessa Vallely, managing director of WeAreTheCity said: “It has been a total honour to run this year’s awards and highlight the achievements of so many amazing women. The calibre of entries was truly phenomenal.

“WeAreTheCity is very much about supporting the female pipeline and introducing these awards was a perfect opportunity to showcase the amazing talent of women across the UK.”

The top five winners for each category have been invited to celebrate at a lavish awards ceremony in London on 30 June.

Sarah was nominated for her dedication to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education and for being a ‘passionate and determined advocate for diversity, mentoring and flexibility’.

Said Sarah, who works for science-based technology company 3M: “I am thrilled to win this award, especially as the technology category attracted the most nominations. I met some amazing people when I attended the celebration for shortlisted candidates and am hopeful that this will open up opportunities to further my STEM work, broaden my network and raise the profile of 3M as an inspiring company to work for.”
