    • SPARKS is the only publication for electrical engineering students and this year’s competition looks set to be fiercely contested with the finalists coming head to head in 3M’s Customer Innovation Centre in Bracknell on 8 and 9 March.

As well as being home to a number of workshops ideal for running practical competitions, the Customer Innovation Centre showcases a number of 3M innovations. These range from digital stethoscopes for earth-bound doctors to listen to the heartbeats of astronauts to concrete material so light that it floats.

Celia Matthews, managing director of SNG Publishing and founder of SPARKS Magazine, said: "We are delighted that 3M is sponsoring the competition and the fact that the company is hosting our Grand Final means that this year's competition will be bigger and better than ever before.

“The 3M facilities are first class and I am sure that the Customer Innovation Centre will inspire the next generation of electricians to use their full potential both in the competition final and in their future careers."

Said 3M product manager Gemma Brown: “As well as being a sponsor of the competition and hosting the event, 3M supplied sampling kits for the first 20 colleges to register for the Electrical Apprentice of the Year competition, reaching 600 students.

This had a great reaction from colleges. Said Kishan Chauhan, electrical installation lecturer from the College of North West London: “3M products are of a high standard, so this provides electrical apprentices with the best start possible in their careers.”
