Pure Novec Insulating Gases offer higher dielectric strength than SF6. In application, Novec insulating gases are typically mixed with inert gases where the mixture offers comparable dielectric strength to SF6 and has a wide operating temperature window. The gas mixtures can be utilized in gas-insulated switchgear, circuit breakers and gas-insulated lines (GIL) and more.
SF6, used in gas-insulated power equipment and lines, has a global warming potential 23,500 times that of CO₂ when compared over a 100-year period. Tests utilizing a gas mixture with Novec insulating gases demonstrate greenhouse gas reductions of more than 99% in on-grid commercial equipment versus equipment utilizing SF6.
Gas-insulated power infrastructure installed on the grid, including gas-insulated lines and gas-insulated switchgear, have proven the performance of Novec Insulating Gases with some of the earliest installations going back as far as 2015.
