  • Various flexibilities support grinding applications ranging from lightweight to heavy-duty
  • Plate accommodates a fiber disc of equal diameter
  • Plate color indicates disc density for easy identification in the workroom
  • Rigid hub offers firm support to fibre disc face plate
  • Buy disc pad face plates and fibre discs separately

3M™ Disc Pad Face Plate backs a same size fiber disc (sold separately) to provide firm support and the force required for grinding applications. It is used in conjunction with a disc pad hub (sold separately), which attaches to the power tool, and held into place along with the appropriate disc using a retainer nut (sold separately).

3M™ Disc Pad Face Plates are easy to identify, in four different colours corresponding to density levels. For removing heavy metals and large welds, choose red (extra hard). For heavy grinding with the coarsest grades, choose black (hard). For general purpose grinding and finishing, choose grey (medium), and for finishing operations on flat or contoured surfaces, choose white (soft). Use 3M™ Disc Pad Face Plate for a range of grinding and finishing applications. It backs a fibre disc of the same size* to give firm support and the force needed for effective grinding. Attach with a disc pad hub (sold separately) to the power tool, using a retainer nut (sold separately). This assembly allows the disc pad face to be easily changed, without removing the disc pad hub. It allows the operator to use just one tool for a variety of applications. Some of our face plates feature ribbing on the underside, for more grinding pressure. The ribbing optimises the fracturing of the abrasive mineral, providing additional force when needed. With a smaller and more concentrated area of contact of pressure per square foot (PSI), the operator gets more abrasive grinding pressure, for less effort. When dulling is a problem, the disc lasts longer. To ensure the abrasive mineral breaks down as it should, always choose a plate with the right level of firmness needed for the specific application. Use a lighter density face plate for lighter weight grinding, and a harder one for more heavyweight grinding, for example. Using the right plate maximises the life of the abrasive. *sold separately
