Our next candidate is 22 year old Daniel from our host country Sweden. After graduating from high school in 2013, he knew he wanted to do something in construction. After trying a lot of different professions in the school's first semester, Daniel decided he wanted to become a bricklayer and he has already excelled in his profession at the WorldSkills™ competition in Sao Paulo in 2015.
"I learned at WorldSkills that it isn't easy to compete all by yourself when you've got a bunch of other contestants around you. In the end though, you will only become better in your skill no matter the outcome."
Daniel believes he ended up at EuroSkills because he really loves what he does. After winning the Swedish championship, he became part of the WorldSkills Swedish team and joined the competition in Sao Paulo. There he also learned about the difficulties when competing under high pressure with many other candidates and how important it is to not feel pressured by the competition. We wish him luck!
"I love what I do and no matter what my task at work or during practice is, I want to complete it as good as I know I can."
Of course also Daniel knows that there's no success without effort. So while others his age go out on weekends, Daniel has spent them on the floor practicing for the last six months! He will also go back to his old school to practice for six weeks full time before EuroSkills in December. Of course such commitment needs supporters, in Daniel's case his family, who supported him before in choosing this profession. But what really keeps Daniel going is his true interest in his profession.
WorldSkills as a door opener? Yes! Daniel has already benefited from being a WorldSkills candidate. Not only has he extended his professional knowledge, acquiring new skills and techniques but he also strongly believes in the personal opportunities that come with being part of a EuroSkills team. Now he is traveling around Sweden to speak about his experiences at WorldSkills and EuroSkills in front of hundreds of people - something he never would have dreamed of a year ago!
