Thermal stability. Applied to making sure your cable insulation meets stringent
limits for smoke generation and flammability.
Located in the exhaust pipe of a car, the lambda probe is the key sensor which measures the amount of oxygen in the flue gas. The sensor‘s input is used to control the fuel mixture and adjusts it when necessary. This optimizes fuel consumption and reduces exhaust emissions. The optimum service temperature of the probe is about 300° C.
In future engine concepts, the space available for exhaust gas sensors will be getting ever smaller. In addition, the sensors will be subjected to even higher temperatures. Smaller, lighter, more versatile and above all ready for operation in the shortest possible time: these will be the outstanding advantages of our further developments.
In order to meet future more stringent exhaust gas regulations, high-quality materials which can withstand higher temperatures, including at connection points, will be essential.
3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers are a perfect match, as they combine the ability to withstand the highest service temperatures with extraordinary chemical resistance.
Unique electrical, thermal and chemical resistance properties mean heating cables with 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymer insulations are extensively used in the chemical, pharmaceutical and medical processing industries for column and vessel thermal management.
Excellent fire performance, heat resistance and dielectrical properties. Use melt processable 3M™ Dyneon™ FEP for fast signal transmission in telecom and data cable applications.
Thermal stability, outstanding electrical performance, meeting stringent limits for smoke generation and flammability, as well as superior chemical resistance. No wonder Dyneon Fluoropolymers are the materials of choice when it comes to high performance cable insulation and jacketing in the automotive and communications industries. Applications include heating cables for seats, lambda probe cables, thermocouple cables, and LAN cables. In addition, intrinsic and excellent flame retardancy means fluoropolymers can be used in wire harnesses.
