In high performance ball-, control- or butterfly valve applications, the tight shut off performance of the valve is strongly related to the interference of disc and seats. Fluoropolymer-based seat designs are most commonly used throughout the chemical, petrochemical and food and pharma industries for their excellent chemical resistance, temperature performance and low operating torque capability in harsh, corrosive environments.
Packed columns are typically used to optimize contact surface between two phases in a chemical or physical process. Packed beds are found in chemical reactors, distillation, and refining processes or in a scrubber. Fluoroplastics are used as packing materials for their chemical resistance, non-stick performance and thermal stability in combination with their ability to create a large surface area.
Circuit breakers are a well known requirement for electrical circuits, designed to automatically interrupt electrical power and avoid damage caused by overload or short circuit. PTFE and PTFE compounds are used in high voltage SF6 gas circuit breaker nozzle applications because of their electrical insulation and thermal resistance characteristics.
Located in the exhaust pipe of a car, the lambda probe is the key sensor which measures the amount of oxygen in the flue gas. The sensor‘s input is used to control the fuel mixture and adjusts it when necessary. This optimizes fuel consumption and reduces exhaust emissions. The optimum service temperature of the probe is about 300° C.
In future engine concepts, the space available for exhaust gas sensors will be getting ever smaller. In addition, the sensors will be subjected to even higher temperatures. Smaller, lighter, more versatile and above all ready for operation in the shortest possible time: these will be the outstanding advantages of our further developments.
In order to meet future more stringent exhaust gas regulations, high-quality materials which can withstand higher temperatures, including at connection points, will be essential.
3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers are a perfect match, as they combine the ability to withstand the highest service temperatures with extraordinary chemical resistance.
