The 3M™ Mobile True Definition Scanner is the first of its kind to be tablet-based, which means that dentists can easily carry it between surgeries, while patients can see the results of the scans in a compact device they can hold in their hand.

The scanner is operated by gliding the tip of its wand over the patient’s teeth, capturing data as a continuous 3D video image. This produces an accurate digital impression, replacing the need for patients to have to bite into a mouthful of putty to map out their teeth.

“Its innovative design ensures fast, comfortable scanning, resulting in a better experience for patients compared with traditional methods and its portability makes it a convenient and cost -effective solution for dentists who work in multiple practices,” said Charlotte Griffin, business executive, 3M Oral Care.

“Rather than looking like a piece of medical equipment, the scanner has familiar touch-screen technology. This helps with communication between dentist and patient and gives patients a better understanding of their proposed treatment.

“We’ve already had a lot of interest in the Mobile True Definition scanner ahead of its European launch at the International Dental Show in Cologne in March,” added Charlotte. “We’re hoping it will be a big hit with dentists and patients alike.”
