3M™ IW Housings are constructed from 316L stainless steel and designed in accordance with the AD Merkblätter 95 design code. Our housings are designed for use with plug-in cartridges such as 3M™ LifeASSURE™ PDA, 3M™ ZetaPore™ and 3M™ Betapure™ NT filters.

For most food and beverage applications and other processes where 316L material and high levels of surface finish are required, use 3M™ IW Housings. Special builds 3M West Europe SPSD Hardware team has extensive experience designing and supplying special vessels for plug-in cartridges. Our IW housings can be made to a wide variety of design and construction codes (including ASME U Stamp). Special vessels can range from simple modifications of standard designs up to large multiple housing skid mounted units with associated accessories, and with both second shell heating jackets and electrical trace heating. The information in the following sections is typical for standard products – please contact your local 3M SPSD representative for further information. Operating conditions 3M IW housings can operate at pressures up to 10 bar g and temperatures of up to 150 °C. The actual operating conditions will depend on the PED 2014/68/CE regulations for the application and the cartridge type being used. Construction materials All wetted surfaces are 316L stainless steel with some small parts in polypropylene. Other parts (V-band clamp, screw clamps, leg mountings, etc.) are supplied in 304 stainless steel or similar. Special 3M IW style vessels can be supplied in a wide variety of materials including low ferrite stainless steels (< 1% and < 3%) and C22 ‘Hastelloy’ as well as super duplex grades. Gaskets Silicone gaskets are supplied as standard. Other gasket materials are available as standard items and can be readily swapped with those supplied. Inlet and outlet options All 3M IW housings have triclover-flanged connections available (inlet/outlets and vents) and DIN 2633 flanges. In addition, the single cartridge housings are also available with threaded Male DIN 11851 connections. Surface finish All 3M IW housings have a high quality mechanical polish finish of 0.8 microns Ra or less. Food compliance All 3M IW housings comply with the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 for their intended food contact applications. ATEX 2014/34/CE 3M IW housings are approved for use in ATEX condition II 2 GD IIC.
