    Use the 3M™ Tegaderm™ CHG Chlorhexidine Gluconate Gel Pad 1664R pad for a variety of percutaneous devices, including implanted ports, large bore catheters, surgical drains and bone pins used in the care of oncology, haematology, orthopedic and plastic surgery patients..

TegadermTM CHG is intended to reduce catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) in patients with central venous or arterial catheters. 3M™ Tegaderm™CHG Gel Pad 1664R provides site visibility and immediate and continuous antimicrobial protection against microorganisms associated with CRBSIs for up to 7 days without additional moisture required to activate. The highly breathable film atop the CHG gel pad helps to release moisture. The gel pad remains clear and protects even in the presence of blood, saline and exudates. The adhesive border provides gentle, yet strong adherence to skin, and the pre-cut slit in the gel pad is designed to conform around a variety of percutaneous devices.

To use 3M™ Tegaderm™ CHG Chlorhexidine Gluconate Gel Pad 1664R with intravascular devices, reference the below steps.

    Prepare

    Prepare site according to facility protocol. Ensure site is completely dry. Remove liner 1, then liner 2 as shown above.

    Press

    Place CHG gel pad around the device, covering the catheter insertion site and ensuring that the device rests upon the slit of the gel pad. Do not stretch during application. Apply firm pressure to enhance adhesion.

    Secure

    According to facility protocol, secure the catheter with the appropriate transparent, semi-permeable membrane dressing (e.g. 3M™ Tegaderm™ HP, 3M™ Tegaderm™ Diamond, 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Port, 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement).

    Monitor

    Inspect the CHG gel pad daily and change as necessary, in accordance with facility protocol.
