3M has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the 18th consecutive year.

    • The 2017 listing comes in recognition of the corporation’s sustainability efforts in the US and globally and 3M is one of a short list of companies to have been included in the index each year.

One of the most highly regarded sustainability performance rankings, the DJSI is created by research analysts who conduct in-depth studies of a company’s environmental, social and economic performance.

3M has a long-standing commitment to sustainability, from the Pollution Prevention Pays programme set up in 1975 to 3M’s forward-looking sustainability goals for 2025 relating to raw materials, water, energy and climate, health and safety, as well as education and development.

“Part of the 3M vision is improving every life and we take that very seriously,” says 3M’s chief sustainability officer, Jean Sweeney. “More than ever, we have a strong sense of purpose at the heart of everything we do - from products and policies to partnerships."

This commitment to sustainability and improving lives has led to many innovative 3M technologies and products that address global sustainability challenges. These include:

      • Window films that let light in and keep heat out, reducing the energy load on a building
      • 3M Glass Bubbles that replace heavier materials, reducing weight without sacrificing strength and contributing to energy efficiency
      • Respirators, surgical drapes and single-patient use rolls of medical tape that help hospitals reduce waste and infection caused by cross-contamination
      • Paper thin display films that enhance light, making smart phones brighter and using less battery power

Jean added. “This is a great accomplishment as the expectations and criteria for inclusion in the DJSI increase each year. We should all feel very proud of the hard work and commitment of 3Mers across the globe to advance 3M Sustainability and improve lives.”
