How to clean and maintain welding and respiratory equipment

Maintaining respiratory protection requires regular cleaning and maintenance through effective pre-use checks and after-use care. This is important for the continued performance of your 3M respiratory or welding product and helps to minimise potential exposure during reuse.

This webinar will discuss the key product features that help provide protection and explain how these features are checked and maintained. It will focus on the reusable products within the 3M range, including our facepieces, headtops, welding and powered air respirators.

PPE should be properly maintained in an efficient state and in good working order to retain its original protective effectiveness. Those involved in maintaining PPE should be competent to do so; having been trained to understand how the PPE works, the risks involved and the specific practices required for checking, maintaining, repairing, testing and using the equipment.

A complete and effective maintenance programme should include:

• Inspection and identification of issues and defects
• Replacement and repair of parts for the entire item of PPE
• Testing and verification of the function and performance of the PPE
• Cleaning and disinfection of reusable items of PPE, particularly where the PPE is not issued on a personal basis
