Chloramines in the mains water supply can affect both hot and cold drinks, making coffee taste sour and carbonated drinks bitter and flat.

Simple carbon filters reduce chlorine, but do not remove chloramines, so 3M has launched a new water filtration system using premium carbon block technology that can remove both for great tasting water.

As well as removing the taste and odour of chlorine and chloramines, the 3M™ ScaleGard™ Blend Series cartridges reduce calcium and magnesium ions that cause the build-up of hard scale and can damage equipment.

In addition, the ScaleGard heads enable operators to customise water quality by setting the desired level of water hardness and an optional filtration monitor can track the life cycle and status of the cartridge.

Said Samuel Bennett, marketing executive for 3M’s Separation and Purification Sciences Division: “The new ScaleGard Blend Series was developed for the food service industry to not only provide great tasting water for hot and cold drinks, but to improve productivity by reducing scale build-up on equipment that can lead to expensive repairs, replacements and service call-outs.

“In addition, the Sanitary Quick Change cartridge has been developed for fast and easy change-outs and a built-in resin minimises changes in pH to protect against corrosion.”

The customisable system even remembers previous blend settings when cartridges are replaced.
