University student Hannah Cooper says that working for a company that has a culture of ethical business behaviour makes her feel highly valued.
Hannah, 21, is spending her placement year working as a marketing assistant for 3M’s Personal Safety Division and has been struck by the way the company values customers and employees.
Says Hannah, who is studying international business and marketing at Leeds University: “At 3M the whole ethos is on wanting the best for customers, which is so important in an area like personal safety where the stakes are high if workers are not fully protected.
“This culture is also tangible in the way that employees are treated and I’ve found colleagues so approachable and ready to help. The focus is always on doing business in the right way and I’m encouraged to be honest if a mistake is made with no fear of reprisals.”
Hannah saw the role advertised on the Rate My Placement website and jumped at the chance to spend a year with 3M as she had heard a lot about the company.
Says Hannah: “My experience has been extremely valuable and I’ve had the chance to work on a number of exciting projects, such as organising events, supporting marketing campaigns, and launching new products including a new industrial safety helmet.
“At 3M people are driven by results, but without compromising the company’s high standards. I was therefore delighted, but not surprised, to learn that 3M has been recognised as one of the most ethical companies in the world by Ethisphere and it’s something that makes me feel very proud.
“Working for an ethical company like 3M is very important to me and is something that I won’t comprise on when it comes to finding a permanent role after I finish university.”
3M has been named as one of the world’s most ethical companies by Ethisphere for the third consecutive year. 3M joins just 131 industry giants, including Tata Steel, Ford Motor Company, Dell and Kellogg Company, to feature in the 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company list.
Ethisphere is a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical practice in business and recognises companies that align principle with action, work tirelessly to make trust part of their corporate DNA and shape future industry standards.
