Any fear of heights among visiting journalists was conquered at a media event held to demonstrate 3M’s range of fall protection products at its state-of-the art training centre in Oldham.
Members of the press travelled to the site in Greenfield and after spending time in the classroom finding out about the company’s plans to improve safety standards for working at height, were kitted out so they could test the products for themselves.
Receiving the same training as the thousands of workers who visit the centre each year, the journalists took to the roof and scaled tall structures before being sent down a 30m high wind turbine on a rescue system.
Stephen Morris, training sales manager for Fall Protection, said: “It was a great opportunity to introduce the media to 3M’s latest personal protective equipment.
“Everyone got really involved – with some even facing their fear of heights – to put our solutions to the test.
“It can be hard to imagine the risks faced by workers in these types of jobs and to understand the importance of selecting the right equipment, so I’m glad we were able to provide the journalists with hands-on experience.”
The journalists came from titles including Health & Safety at Work, Professional Builder, Roofing Cladding & Insulation, Energy Engineering and Cranes Today.
