A wide range of global architectural trends have inspired a new collection of 3M DI-NOC Architectural Finishes.

These 153 textured and patterned surface enhancement films add to the existing range of 800 finishes that offer a cost-effective and creative solution for a variety of decoration, refurbishment and re-surfacing applications.

Among the new innovations are ‘effect’ patterns where the finish changes colour depending on the viewing angle and light levels and ‘advanced metallic’ patterns that look like wallpaper and incorporate small metallic pieces that shimmer and reflect light.

The patterns were created by 3M following research carried out at international and local design trade fairs around the globe. “With excellent feedback from customers, we developed a series of mood boards and used these as our inspiration to create a set of unique and exciting patterns,” explains Christian Stoehr, West Europe portfolio manager for 3M’s Commercial Solutions Division.

“Our DI-NOC Architectural Finishes are known throughout the design and architectural world for their ability to recreate natural materials realistically and at a fraction of the cost of traditional materials. With more than 800 individual finishes, the range offers designers and architects unrivalled creative flexibility and design freedom when working on new builds or refurbishments. This helps reduce both labour and material costs as well as dramatically reducing the amount of time a business is closed for refurbishment.”

As well as effect and advanced metallic patterns, the new collection includes Sucupira, also known as Brazilian Wild Walnut; mortar patterns that are popular for commercial buildings; Yagi-Sugi, a carbonised wood material traditionally used in Japan for external walls; and Haku, a bold design combining squares of gold, platinum and copper coloured foils.

Hardwearing and resistant to rain and dirt, 3M DI-NOC Architectural Finishes are easy to work with. Each finish incorporates 3M Comply Technology - a system of small air release channels within the adhesive layer of the film that allows air trapped between the film and the substrate to escape – making application quick and easy.

3M DI-NOC Architectural Finishes have been used successfully on walls and ceilings as well as furniture and fixtures. The finishes can be applied directly to existing substrates and to flat or curved surfaces. They can be used indoors or outside across a diverse range of industries ranging from retail, banking, hotel and leisure to marine and rail.
