The 3M™ Scotchlite™ fluorescent orange-red reflective fabric 8986 was developed for safety clothing, such as firefighting garments and flame-resistant workwear, requiring a high degree of daytime and night-time visibility. The retroreflective part of the fabric shines white when illuminated, even if the wearer is at the roadside. The product is characterised by a high degree of heat resistance and outstanding durability during use. 3M's reflective fabric is composed of retroreflective glass beads bonded to a durable flame-resistant 100% cotton fabric with a special bonding layer. It meets ISO 20471 requirements and improves the visibility of people at night through its high reflection values. The values even exceed the minimum reflection values for materials with combined properties. Even under the influence of radiant heat and convective thermal load, the material not only exceeds the requirements for minimum reflection values but also flammability requirements. At the same time, the luminous colour ensures daytime conspicuity. As the base fabric is made of 100% FR cotton, the reflective material does not affect the flame-retardant properties of the garment and it exceeds EN 469 flammability requirements. It is easy to maintain. Daytime conspicuity is still present even after many washes. Dry cleaning is also possible. The material itself can be used on delicate fabrics. When it comes to tough fabrics, the user can choose any care procedure. Another advantage: The material is available in various widths and can be printed on, embroidered on, embossed or used for piping or stamping parts. This means that individual designs can be implemented simply and easily. In addition, the retroreflective properties of the material are independent of the grain on the garment which means that it ensures good visibility for many angles of incidence.
