Intern Chin Nou Khang with some of his colleagues from 3M Corporate Communications.

My first step into 3M’s Corporate Communications department gave me a thrilling feeling, because I have never been an intern ever in my life. It was one of those eye-opening experiences.

I got this internship through the BrandLab, which brings together high school students from diverse backgrounds with professionals in the communications and marketing industries. There were over 50 companies involved, and I was lucky enough to land in the 3M Newsroom. I worked with the digital and social strategy team. We solved problems and found solutions with creativity. One of the first things I did was brainstorm fun ways to represent visually for the team how many visitors come to our website. We ended up putting Skittles in a jar to represent visitors – and it’s filling quickly! I also am learning about all the equipment involved in broadcast journalism.

I met so many great people throughout my experience here and will continue to connect with them in the future. I am glad to be using my summer to get experiences I will never forget. Overall, it made me realize how proud I am to be at 3M, where I can be innovative in my very first internship and challenge myself to be a better individual.
