A photo from the opening of the 3M Brownwood plant in Texas in 1965.

By Paul Aufenkamp, 3M Brownwood Plant Manager

Deep in the heart of Texas, more than 600 people at a 3M plant work hard to make reflecting materials for traffic signage, license plates and clothing – all designed with the goal of keeping you a little safer. It’s a talented group of people and a wonderful town here in Brownwood.

This summer marked our 50th anniversary, and we had one big celebration (although I’m not sure any celebration could top the official grand opening shown in this photo). More than 1,200 people turned out for an open house, terrific meal and family fun like face painting and a visit from Jeff Gordon’s 3M-sponosored No. 24 race car.

We’re so proud of our track record as a major employer in the area, proud of the work we do here and proud to be part of this community. Now on to the next half century!
