The online Wonder campaign explores how 3M employees harness these sparks of curiosity and then apply science to improving lives.

Four dynamic videos - In the City, At Home, On the Road and At Play – explore the concept and pose questions such as ‘could cement float?’; ‘what if roads could talk to buses?’; ‘can we enjoy the light with less heat?’; ‘could a bike frame be lighter than a bottle of water?’; and ‘what if phones were people-proof?’.

The answers are revealed in a series of interactive web pages that encourage readers to find out more about 3M innovation and how it can enhance the way we live and work.

These range from glass microspheres that can make cement light enough to float in water; smart codes that can ‘talk’ to self-driving vehicles; window films that block UV light to reduce energy bills, but still let in the light; carbon matrix resin that was used by Cervélo to make a bike frame for the Tour de France that was lighter than a 24 oz bottle of water; and acrylic foam tape that absorbs the shock when a phone is dropped so it is less likely to crack.
