    • The 3M™ Cold Shrink Super Premium joint is the next generation of cable jointing from 3M™, comprising of a 1 piece factory pre-assembled joint body, copper screen sleeve and outer protection. It offers a fully integrated, pre-assembled solution, designed to further eliminate process steps and result in a quick and safe installation. As well as all the benefits of cold shrink, this product is also perfect for working in a confined space.

The copper screen wires are folded back and Temflex tape is applied over the cable sheath. The wires are pushed into the mastic and then fixed to the sheath by applying a layer of PVC tape. The copper screen wires are then cut according to the given dimension. The Super Premium Joint is a integrated solution containing joint body, copper screen sleeve and outer protection all in one factory pre-assembled piece which elimates process steps resulting in a quick and safe installation. The innovative design means a safe and immediate connection and minimum space required for the installation.

The Super Premium Joint is positioned over the cable. The connector, supplied in the kit, is then installed ensuring this is conducted according to supplier’s instruction. 3M™ cable cleaning wipes are then used to remove dirt and grease from the cable and connector. 3M P55 silicone grease is applied over the primary insulation, semi-conductor screen and connector. Remembering to leave the connector till last to avoid contamination. Reposition the joint over the connector and shrink down the joint body. There is a built in semi conductive electrode so there is no need to over tape the connector.

3M™ cable cleaning wipes are then used to remove dirt and grease from the cable jacket. Scotch-Seal 5313 Mastic is then applied over the cable semi conductive layer. PVC tape is used to cover the mastic and overlaps partially onto the copper wire screen. The copper screen sleeve is folded back and fixed in place using a constant force spring providing a complete 360 degree earth screen around the joint for added protection.

PVC tape is then applied over the constant force springs. Scotch® 2228 tape is then applied onto the cable jacket and copper screen sleeve at both ends. The core of the outer protection tube is then removed by hand to install over the joint. The live memory action of the specially formulated material shrinks the protection tube into position and ensures a constant radial pressure and seal.
