The high performance Crown Hockey stick is made from a unique composite in line with Formula One processes and is designed with spherical indentation to increase the overall surface area, making it easier to dissipate vibration and providing pain free striking.

3M™ Polyurethane Protective Tape – originally developed for the Aerospace industry to protect the leading edge of aircraft and helicopter blades from erosion – was applied to the high-tech composite material to protect it from all weather conditions and abrasions and this led to the discovery of a secondary benefit.

Explains Matt Hutton, chief technology officer at Crown Hockey: "Hockey pitches are tough environments, so we originally applied the 3M tape to protect the hitting face from the sand and grit that collects on the ball. When we tested the stick in the field we found that the tape also provided players with extra cushion and grip and actually improved ball control."

As well as giving a surface finish that is tough and highly durable, the tape provides a layer of protection that is almost crystal clear, revealing the detailed carbon fibre weave beneath.

Crown Touch Pads, or pre-cut tape with a pressure sensitive backing for hockey sticks, are also available from Crown Hockey.
