3M™ Boron Carbide Powders as Antioxidant work to protect carbon-bonded refractory materials against oxidation. Our boron carbide powders offer better protection against aggressive alloys compared to metallic antioxidants.

3M™ Boron Carbide Powders considerably extend the service life of modern refractories used in steel production equipment. The corrosion of alumina-carbon refractories is controlled by the oxidation of the carbon structure. While carbon-bonded compositions have the best chemical resistance against molten steel and slag, they are also sensitive to oxidation. Compared to conventional metal antioxidants, 3M boron carbide powders offer more effective protection. 3M boron carbide antioxidants have a proven track record used in carbon-bonded aluminum oxide slide gates and various isostatically pressed components such as submerged entry nozzles (SEN).
