    The 3M™ Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve is designed to release your hot, humid exhaled breath quickly, helping to prevent an unpleasant build up of heat inside the respirator - one of the most significant causes of discomfort to respirator wearers.

    The Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve opens 37% easier than the original 3M Cool Flow™ Valve. This results in 36%, 56% or 185% additional exhaled air passing through the valve with the 9300+Gen3 series compared to its predecessor the Aura™ 9300+ (results compare FFP3, FFP2, FFP1 products respectively).

    Therefore the Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve helps deliver a cooler breathing experience and greater wearer comfort, making the 9300+Gen3 valved respirators ideal for long periods of wear, especially where conditions are hot, humid or physically demanding.

Visible from the outside: The comfort difference with the 3M™ Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve

Thermographic imaging enables us to see the warm exhaled air flow and compare the impact of the valve on a respirator.

  • Inhalation with both valved and unvalved respirators

    Inhalation is the cooler part of the cycle; with both valved and unvalved respirators, 3M’s Advanced Electret (Filter) Media (AEM) allows easy inhalation of the cooler external air through the respirator.
    As the wearer inhales, air is pulled through the respirator and surface temperature decreases. The valve’s plastic cover retains some of the heat due to the composition of the material.

  • Exhalation with both valved and unvalved respirators

    Exhalation: As the wearer exhales the respirator is filled with warm, moist air. The cooler thermal imaging shades of the picture on the right indicate how the respirator fitted with the Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve allows the air, together with its natural heat, to be expelled more rapidly. As the hot exhaled air exits through the valve, the rest of the respirator remains cooler and more comfortable.
    This benefit is ideal for long periods of wear, especially where conditions are hot and humid or when work is physically demanding and likely to cause heavy breathing.

  • Breathing Resistance on different respirator models

    Stay cooler with the 3M™ Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve

    The lower the breathing resistance, the easier it is for the user to inhale and exhale, which should contribute to greater comfort. 3M respirators with the 3M™ Cool Flow™ Comfort Valve had lower exhalation air flow resistance than the 3M unvalved products*.

Less filter media required to achieve the same level of protection

  • Filter Fibre
    The better the charge, the greater the field of capture...

    Using a unique manufacturing process, each fibre in the 3M AEM structure is endowed with a very high electrostatic charge. This high level of charge enables each AEM fibre in your 3M filter to attract particles from a wider capture area, efficiently drawing them in and securing them to itself.

  • Comparison of Filter Media
    ...requiring less filter fibres to achieve the same level of protection.

    The strong 3M AEM charge means less fibres are needed to efficiently capture particles. This enables 3M to construct an effective filter with a much more open structure than conventional electret filters, freeing up the passage of air.

  • Low Breathing Resistance Filter Technology

    3M™ Aura™ 9300+Gen3 disposable respirators feature 3M’s AEM filter technology: an innovative filter media that helps minimize breathing resistance. This enables high filtering performance with less effort on the part of the wearer, making protection even less intrusive.
