Music guru Pete Waterman presented 3M with a prize for the most innovative stand at the Overhead Power Line and Working at Height Safety Exposition held at Chester racecourse on 9 June.
The exhibition was hosted by engineering consultancy group EA Technology for representatives from the UK electricity utilities, rail and wind power industries as well as health and safety professionals.
Pete Waterman was attending the event as a railway enthusiast and singled out the 3M stand for its demonstration of Cold Shrink pre-stretched tubes that are used to safely join and terminate cables without needing tools, sealants, adhesives, torches or other heat sources.
Said product marketing manager for Electronics and Energy Katherine Barnicoat: “Our Cold Shrink technology has been serving the industry for nearly 40 years and is now available for high voltage as well as low and medium voltage applications.
“Sales representative James Robert gave live demonstrations of Cold Shrink on the stand throughout the day and we also showed an application video on a loop.”
As well as Cold Shrink, 3M showcased other innovative technologies for the overhead power line and safety industry.
These included 3M ACCR (Aluminium Conductor Composite Reinforced) that can replace existing electrical conductors and double the transmission capacity of the line without sagging and fall protection equipment from Capital Safety.
Added Katherine: “The event was a great opportunity to talk to utility companies about our solutions for the industry.”
