Managing heat. Managing sound.

Advanced materials improve passenger comfort and the reliable operation of aircraft components.

Thermal Acoustic Systems

On the ground and at 30,000 feet, 3M thermal and acoustic solutions are engineered to lessen the vibration, lower the sound and take the heat. Materials are instrumental for passenger comfort, and for maintaining reliable operation of aircraft components – without adding weight. They include structural aircraft damping composites, thermally and acoustically tuned primary insulation, overframe blankets and conformable carpet pads for acoustic management. Our strong, flexible ceramic fibers and fabrics shield against flame and heat, provide electrical insulation and deliver structural reinforcement even for composites exposed to jet engine exhaust. Engineered additives help dissipate heat in plastic components, even in tight spaces, while maintaining dielectric strength. This is just the start. Learn more now.

    Thermal Solutions

Through science and the power of multiple technologies, 3M provides materials designed to improve heat transfer while maintaining electrical insulation even in components that are traditionally not thermally conductive. This allows you to incorporate lightweight parts made from materials such as thermoplastics, elastomers and thermoset resins. We also provide 3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Fibers and Textiles to help protect critical equipment – firewalls, seals, and others – as well as add electrical insulation and structural reinforcement to composites. These lightweight, flexible and extraordinarily durable materials can resist temperatures well over 2300ºF.
