      3M™ Thinsulate™ Acoustic Insulation is already widely used in a range of interior and body applications to make vehicles quieter and lighter and a new high temperature version has now been developed for engines.

      Engines offer a particular challenge due to the heat they generate and the presence of oil, but the new Thinsulate solution can withstand these conditions.

      3M™ Thinsulate™ High Temperature Acoustic Absorbers offer higher acoustic absorption performance and better heat resistance than traditional foam engine sound absorbers and are more than 50 per cent lighter.

      Thinsulate has a unique fibre structure that absorbs air-borne noise and the material can be die-cut to fit custom shapes and configurations. It is also highly conformable and compressible, so it performs extremely well in a small space.

      Said senior acoustics sales specialist Darren Lansley: “High temperature Thinsulate has all the same benefits as the original acoustic insulation material and opens up ‘engine side’ applications for the first time.”
