As electronics become more connected and intuitive, information displays can become major selling points for the entire vehicle – and present bona fide challenges in thermal management. Without thermal management solutions, all of those cool digital and electronic display functions won’t stay cool for long. 

3M draws on our core thermal management technology platform to create interface solutions built on the science of thermal conductivity. Thermally conductive interface pads and tapes are designed specifically to help transfer heat away from critical display components. Our thermal management materials also deliver high dielectric strength to maintain insulating effectiveness over time. They are ideal for LCD screens as well as power and chip drivers in information displays.

All 3M thermally conductive materials are designed for simple, efficient application. Flexible and conformable materials can be easily die cut and applied with or without automated equipment.

These 3M thermal pads deliver excellent heat conductivity and electrical insulation with no siloxane outgassing which can cause electrical connection failure and fogging of optical components. Acrylic pads are conformable and compressible for efficient handling and consistent application, even to non-flat surfaces and in thin spaces.

Dual liner tapes are a great way to apply thermal conductivity and dielectric strength precisely where you need it. 3M adhesive transfer tapes feature high-strength pressure-sensitive adhesives loaded with thermally-conductive fillers. Some adhesives are formulated to bond to rough or low surface energy (LSE) substrates. They are ideal for thin bond applications.
